H.S. Football Players Leave Practice To Save Woman

Rome High School football teammates Cesar ParkerTreyvon AdamsAntwiion CareyMessiah DanielsTyson Brown and Alto Moore  witnessed a major car crash across from the campus. The 50-year-old female driver was stuck inside her car as smoke poured out from the hood and fluid leaked onto the pavement, so the boys rushed to help her. "We all knew we had to get her out before something worse would happen," Adams explains.

Rome High math teacher Luis Goya also witnessed the accident and called 911 while he watched the boys’ rescue effort. "They literally started using their strength to pry the door open, so the lady could be released.” Goya recalls. “After a few seconds of pulling and pushing the door, the boys ended up opening it and helped her get out of the car. She was shaking and still in panic, but our RHS boys gave her comfort and were able to help her."

Surveillance cameras at the school captured the whole incident and Coach John Reid was impressed with his players after watching it. “I was like, oh my gosh, these kids really did run right into danger and have a sensational event where they helped a lady out of a car that could have caught fire," he says. "Are they heroes? I bet they are to that woman and her family, to us, we're just really proud of them." The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to make full recovery.
