The world will always remember Jussie Smollett for his reported "attack" by Trump supporters. Chicago PD later found 2 guys who knew Jussie and they provided info about how Jussie had hired them to stage the attack to make the President and his supporters look bad and garner publicity for himself.
There's a story in today's Sumter Item that a woman running for Mayor there attempted a Smollett. 29 year old Sabrina Belcher reported to police that she was assaulted and kidnapped by a man she didn’t know, who also tried to rob her. She was injured and the man broke out her car windows during the attack. Police took Belcher to Prisma hospital to be treated and she was released.
The attack was apparently recorded on her phone and posted to her social media. The police say her story didn't make sense from the moment they heard it. Within 24 hours she was confessing that she had planned the whole thing with 34 year old Christopher Eaddy days ahead of time. Her hope was to garner publicity for herself and make it appear that another candidate was behind it. There are 6 candidates so we're not sure which she was trying to stick this on,
Sumter Police Chief Russell Roark said “This was simply an effort to create disorder and discontent in our community for personal gain. As a result, a valuable number of resources, including personnel, man-hours of the police department as well as local medical professionals, were wasted based on false information.”
