3 year old Abigail Ladwig was playing with her family’s cocker spaniel Peanut in the back yard when they wandered off into the woods together.
A Facebook post from the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office explains that this happened around 6:45pm Sunday evening. Her mother had come in the house at 6:40 and went back in the yard at 6:50. She frantically searched the woods yelling for Abigail and Peanut for about 15 minutes. Just after 7 she called police and reported her missing. She also called her neighbors and by 9 pm there were hundreds of volunteers who came together to search the area for Abigail.
Their hard work paid off and around 7:20pm Monday evening, the little girl and her dog were located in the woods just a short distance from her house. She only sustained minor scratches, bug bites and she was dehydrated, but both Abigail and Peanut are okay.
Pat Sanchez, a coordinator of Sawyer County Search and Rescue, says, “It’s amazing how in times of need, we all come together for such an amazing outcome.”
