Mayor gets haircut days after issuing order prohibiting haircuts

Last week the Mayor of Chicago issued an executive order that hair salons, barbershops and any other business that styled hair had to remain closed throughout the COVID 19 crisis and that technician's were banned from either visiting clients or having clients to their homes. In other words it became illegal to get a haircut in Chicago per the Mayor.

However Mayor Lori Lightfoot went and got a haircut on Sunday in defiance of her own order. To make matters worse she then posed for a photo with the stylist who posted it on social media. It has been re-posted and retweeted thousands of times by citizens who are upset.

Yesterday at her press conference she defended her haircut.

I’m in the public every day. And candidly, my hair was not looking the way it should. I thought maybe I’d do it myself, but I knew that would be disaster.

So it's OK for you, but no one else? Isn't that do as I say, not as I do?

Look, we are trying to do the best that we can under difficult circumstances. I am practicing social distancing. The woman who cut my hair had a mask and gloves on. I’m practicing what I’m preaching!"

Really because the photo she posted (see below) she's basically hugging you without any mask or gloves.

I don’t typically take pictures these days. We are trying to do everything we can to emphasize the messages around social distancing, washing your hands, staying at home. But as an elected official and the public face of the city, I need to make sure that I am out there and visible through this crisis. People expect me to be a leader. And that’s what I’m doing.”

Got it. So if you're a leader you can get a haircut, but followers need to shelter in place with that nasty nest on top of your head.

I’ll answer this again. I’m the public face of this city. I’m on national media. And I’m out in the public eye. I take my personal hygiene very seriously. I felt like I needed to have a haircut. I’m not able to do that myself. So, I got a haircut."

OK so it's not for leaders, but just face of the city...aka you who can get haircuts. I appreciate that you take your hygiene seriously, unlike the rest of us unwashed masses. You're a wonderful leader and the people of Chicago should be so thankful that you and your amazing haircut represent them.
