A tourist turned into a hero when he saved a Las Vegas area woman from an apartment fire. Ralph and Sandra Harris live in Atlanta, but were in Vegas for his fraternity convention and went to do some sightseeing at Hoover Dam, but got lost on their way back. "It was like the GPS went crazy and then I just started trying to remember how to get back to the hotel".
The couple ended up in a neighborhood just as flames were engulfing a second-floor apartment. No one seemed to be aware that there was a fire! Ralph honked the horn to alert anyone inside to the fire and a woman came out on her balcony, yelling for help. He immediately ran over and stood under the balcony, shouted for her to jump and caught her. He then climbed an 8 foot fence, ran in the burning building and carried an elderly woman get out of her ground-floor apartment.
Sandra says "To see my husband jump out of the car without thinking twice, run into a burning building, I was afraid for him. I immediately started praying. But I felt like God was saying he would be fine. This is why I brought you here to help these people"
Ralph tells KTNV he’s not a hero, but that he’s grateful for the turn of events that led them to be there at that time. “"Thank God for the wrong turn. That's all I can say. Just glad we made the wrong turn because there are people alive that wouldn't have even known they were in a burning building till it was too late. My wrong turn was God’s right turn and it showed His love for these people".
