Sarah Bradford, a 16-year-old from Liberty, South Carolina, spotted smoke coming from her 92-year-old neighbor Philip Newton's house while she was out for a walk.
When Sarah saw the smoke, she rushed to the house, knowing he was inside because she saw his car in the driveway. She tells WYFF "smoke was pouring out of both ends of the house. I rushed over here and I soaked down his water hose. I prayed and ran inside. The smoke was really thick and I couldn’t breathe and by the grace of God ran into him.”
Sarah actually had to save him twice! While she was calling for help she turned around and saw Phillip was stumbling back into the home! He later said he was disoriented from the smoke and believes he was going in to save some of his books in his study.
Phillip had been trying to deal with carpenter bees damaging his home by using a torch. When he was done he went to take a nap, unaware of the smoldering fire.
Despite the extensive damage, his study, filled with Bibles and books from his years as a pastor, was miraculously spared by the blaze.
