Community Rallies Around Man Who Adopted His Niece & Nephew

In 2019 David Silva of Pocatello, Idaho, became the sole guardian of his eight-year-old nephew and 12-year-old niece when his sister was killed in a car accident. Despite the unexpected turn in his life, he dedicated himself to making sure that the kids had the best life he could provide, working long hours to give them every opportunity.

Now four years later, his niece has earned straight A’s in school and his nephew excels at soccer. Without their uncle's commitment, these opportunities might have been out of reach.

In recognition of Silva’s efforts and sacrifices, the Secret Santa of East Idaho, decided to surprise him with some early Christmas gifts. In a heartfelt moment captured on video, East Idaho News reporter Nate Eaton caught up with Silva at his home and presented him $55-hundred in gift cards for local businesses and Amazon. The gesture is meant to help ease the burden on Silva and acknowledge the significant impact he’s had on his niece and nephew. The uncle was beyond grateful, saying that the unexpected support means a lot for him and his family.
