Man Fights Fire To Save Alzheimers Patient He Had Never Met

A fire broke out in a three-unit row home in Etna, Pennsylvania this past Saturday night around 8:30 according to KDKA-TV.  Damian Komorofski who lives nearby smelled the fire and looked out to see smoke from a block away. He ran over and then heard cries for help. Without hesitation, he rushed into the building and managed to save a man who had Alzheimer's and was stuck upstairs.

Despite the thick black smoke, Damien rushed in as everyone was screaming there was someone stuck upstairs. He grabbed an elderly man on the second floor and escorted him through the smoke to safety. Damien says "I'm lucky I didn't get asphyxiated. But I wasn't worried about me; this isn't any superhero type of stuff, you just do what you can to help somebody."

Two firefighters were briefly hospitalized from battling the fire, but thanks to Damian there were no other injuries or casualties from the fire. Damian downplayed his actions, saying that he simply did what he could to help someone in need.

He’s also calling on the community to come together and support those affected by the fire, emphasizing the importance of helping those in need during difficult times. All of the building’s residents have been displaced by the fire, but the local Red Cross is currently providing them with assistance.
