Chris Stapleton Creates New Monday Night Football Opener With Snoop Dogg

Ever since Hank Williams Jr. and "All My Rowdy Friends Are Here On Monday Night" set the bar incredibly high for "Monday Night Football," there has been a search for a new iconic theme to kick off ESPN's MNF. There was a return to the orchestral "Heavy Action" by Johnny Pearson, a second run for Hank's jam, and for the last couple years, the Little Richard song "Rip It Up." Only four songs have led into MNF since 1970 - but now there's a fifth.

Last night, ESPN debuted the new MNF theme - Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight," as done by country superstar Chris Stapleton along with hip hop legend Snoop Dogg - with the legendary drum break done by Cindy Blackman Santana. Will the song be here and gone? Or will it rank among the great themes of Monday Night Football from years past? Time will tell. As of now, it's slated to be the opening theme for MNF for the rest of this season.
